The Tibialis Anterior, is the small muscle found on the front of your shin bone, and even though its not one of the calf muscles, is should be exercised and trained in order for your body to at optimal strength / fitness levels.

The muscle primary action is to raise your foot, by bending your ankle, so that your foot points upwards (like a dorsal fin on a shark).
To perform this exercise stand with one foot under the bar of a suitably weighted dumbbell, which you need to smoothly lift off the floor by bringing your foot up towards your knee.
Keep your heel on the floor throughout the movement, taking care to position the weight centrally on your foot.
