Its essential to warm and stretch the muscles prior to being worked, with one of the greatest factors being adequate rest between exercises and sets, your aim is to generate maximal explosive power in the shortest of burst. Excessive reps will result in an increase in muscular endurance, not muscular power - always focus on maximal efforts with adequate rest.
