Calf Exercises

The primary function of the calve muscles, both gastrocnemius and soleus is flexion of the foot; a prime example is standing on tiptoes. Both of these muscles connect into the body's largest tendon, the Achilles.

Due to their constant use, it is always wise to spend time stretching these muscles both before and after exercise, and indeed any time you have spare, as they are often the area of muscular tension, and as such muscular strength and tone would benefit regular stretching.
