Tire Throw

If you don't have a suitable medicine ball, you may decide to perform a number of movements with a suitable car tire - however always make sure that it is just the tire - not the wheel.

Check the tire for any foreign objects such as nails or simply metal wire from the tire.

An additional exercise for a tire compared to a medicine ball, is to simply roll the tire either along a flat surface or one that has a downward slope and aim to grab the tire whilst its under forward momentum.

This is a good exercise for developing muscular strength in the forearm, and is suitable for such sports as water skiing, due the sudden jerking action.

As with all exercises progress at your level, if you aim to catch a moving tire, you need to remember that the weight of the tire will increase the faster it is moving - likewise don't use a tire that is to heavy.

Wearing suitable gardening gloves will give you protection to your hands .

Prior to performing this exercise, make sure that you warm up the muscles of your oblique's (side abdominal muscles) and lower back, as you will be rotating under exertion during the grasping / lifting phase.

Always check that the area that you're performing this exercise is safe.
