Multiple Box Jumps
A variety of different jumps can be performed by using a number of different boxes, ideally between 4 – 8 maximum.
The height of each box and distance placed between them will need to be adjusted to suit your jumping ability, always make sure that any sequence of jumps will enable you to perform every movement both safely and effectively.
The basic jumping movement is to have boxes set up of the same height in a line, about 1 large stride apart. You will need to take off and land on the top of the first box, and then land between the first and second box, repeating the process until the last box.
If necessary you may decide to take a small bounce jump between each step box, however this will reduce the effectiveness of the movement.
Progress this movement by aiming to jump and land on the top of each box, using you arms to control both your balance and to aid in upward and forward lift.
The aim is to keep minimal contact on the top of the box; landing securely with both feet shoulder width apart, knees facing forward.
Increase the intensity again by aiming to actually clear the step boxes, or a variety of this action, for example land on two boxes, clear the third, then land on boxes four and five.
Adjusting the height of the boxes to make a pyramid formation will increase the intensity again, however conditioned athletes should only perform this method.
Likewise by implementing a small sprint (15 – 25 meters) at the end of the final jump / landing will increase the exercise – remember you can always adjust the direction that you decide to sprint – forward / left / right and even backwards.
