Ratio Push Ups

The Ratio Push Up is a great way to control the speed of either the lowering or lifting phase of the push up movement.

This action can be used for a multitude of different push up styles, with your aim to simply keep a smooth fluent action throughout the movement.

Aim for a count of between 4 - 8 seconds to perform either the lifting or lowering phase, so as you lower for example, you will take 4 - 8 seconds to get to your lowest point, then lift back up at your normal speed.

Alternatively, you may lower at normal speed, and take 4 - 8 seconds to extend back up.

You should try and use, the ratio counting method for both lifting and lowering phases of the push up, as this will not only help you slow down your normal movements, but will assist in working your muscles through a different range of motion.
