Tricep Anatomy
The tricep muscle is found at the back of the upper arm, and consists of one large muscle, which has three origin points, (hence tri).
The long head of the tricep ( 2 )attaches to the lower edge of the glenoid cavity of the scapula (outer edge of the shoulder blade 1). Its function is to aid in extension of the elbow and to assist in extension of the shoulder joint.
The lateral and medial heads connect on the posterior region of the humerus ( 3 ), (back of the upper arm), lateral head upper half of humerus, medial head lower two thirds of humerus. Their main function is extension of the elbow, (straighten the arm from a bent position).
