F.A.Q.

I have seen a number of different weight loss products, which show amazing results in just a few weeks, which one would you recommend?

One of the biggest scams in the diet industry is where you will see people with their before and after pictures. The before pictures will generally show a pale person, pushing out their stomach, miserable looking with shoulders dropped forward, whereas the after picture they are tanned, smiling and obviously looking a lot healthier. The problem lies in the fact that these people may or may not have used the products, however if they did, they would have combined not only exercise, but also a strict nutritional program.

The dieting industry is worth billions annually, it is worth paying somebody that is in great shape, a few thousand to put on an extra 20 or 30lbs, so that they can then lose this weight, claiming the wonderful benefits of weight loss in a bottle.

Healthy weight loss is not performed by using pills or potions - we would not recommend any, even though the team and site have been approached by many companies to indorse their products.

Is losing too much weight too quickly bad for me?

Weight loss, should come in the form of fat loss. To lose just 1lb of fat, you would need to either exercise or reduce your calorie intake by approximately 3,500 calories. When you read claims of losing 10lb in just a week, your not losing body fat, you will be losing water - energy stores and healthy muscle tissue. The answer is yes, you should aim to lose only 1 - 2lbs per week, however some weeks you will lose more, simply because of either fluctuations in your bodies water levels, and possible inaccuracy's during your weighting / testing process.

What is the best diet for me to go on?

None - diets don't work! Dieting is all about restricting your calorie intake, and depriving your body of essential nutrients that are necessary for optimum body performance. If you go on a diet you will simply put yourself through misery in order to achieve your ideal body weight, rather than looking at the bigger picture. Your ideal body weight does not exist, you only have an optimum performance rate, this may mean that you are a few pounds over weight, however you will feel far healthier on the inside. Don't diet to try and get your weight within the totally inaccurate height / weight charts, look at combining a healthy lifestyle with a positive life.

Will weight training give me bulging muscles?

Muscles will only look bulging, once the fat around them has been stripped away, and the muscles have been correctly fueled and trained in order to gain size. Working with weights in order to lose body fat should be highly encouraged, as the lean healthy muscle tissue is what will burn the fat away, using light weights for high reps will produce effective non bulging muscles that will give you more energy and strength, without the excessive size. In order to get bulging muscles you would need to lift heavy weights for fewer repetitions, whilst focusing on a higher protein intake diet.

When I diet I always lose weight, but then put it all back on again when I start to eat normally, why is this?

This is generally called the yo-yo effect. It simple means that whilst your destroying your body by going on a poor dieting regime, you will be losing water - energy stores, and the most important thing for healthy weight management - "lean muscle tissue". What your actually doing is lowering your calorific expenditure by actually using your muscles as a fuel supply, rather than using them to burn fuel "body fat". When you go back on your normal eating habits, your body will store the greater portion of your calories as fat, due to chemical imbalances within your body. Your problem only gets worse, as because you have lowered your normal daily calorie expenditure, as a result of losing muscle, you will shortly find that your will increase above your previous dieting weight. Keep the muscle to burn the fat!
